The Department of Information Technology for the Division of Student Affairs serves as the central IT resource for the Division. We manage a wide variety of applications and services, including over 700 web sites and a variety of key systems. Core business systems for Housing and Residential Education, Campus Health Services, the Office of New Student and Carolina Parents Programs, the Carolina Union and others are managed by our department. Systems that we manage touch students at almost all stages of their time at Carolina. From signing up for orientation and housing to joining a student organization or visiting career services or campus health, we provide the infrastructure that makes all of that possible. We have also been leading the campus in some new technology areas such as mobile communications via our UNC Mobile initiative, collaborations for iTunes U and systems management with our work to secure a Patchlink agreement for campus. There are 9 full time IT staff in the Division of Student Affairs. Three staff are attached to Campus Health Services where they ensure that the clinics and physicians have all the tools they require to serve the health needs of our students. There is one IT person in University Career Services who works closely with students and potential employers to help our students find a successful career once they leave the campus and one staff member works directly with the Department of Housing and Residential Education. The remaining four staff are responsible for database development, web applications, systems support and overall technology strategy for the Division. The IT Department has cultivated a close relationship with the Executive Branch of Student Government and has taken on an advisory role for each new administration - helping them find the right tools and implement new ideas in a sustainable fashion. As an example of this collaboration, we developed the student life integrated calendar of events (slice.unc.edu) and made content management systems available to over 600 student organizations. We continue to support these key tools in helping student organizations recruit new members, announce events and increase awareness of the opportunities they offer for engagement outside the classroom. Our offices are located on the ground floor of Teague residence hall. We can be reached via phone at 962-5628. Please do not hesitate to call or stop by if there is any way we can help. |
